Even though I was overmatched at the plate I just loved facing some of the best modified pitchers even if I did strikeout. Should keep it fastpitch and try to get a couple more teams a year. Easy for me to say though I am not putting in the time to try to find teams.

Excuse me, don't you have this same problem of money and pitchers for your modified stuff? I'm no expert but, from the names being thrown around who've pitched in your tournament: Sheller, Dyck, Hillhouse, Kirkpatrick, etc. I don't think ANY of those guys is coming because they love Michigan.

All I'm saying is, giving FP 1 year is crazy.

never said they love michigan just saying that we have a harder time finding good pitchers here. We don't have any in state talent really cause there isn't any leagues. One of the best slingers is like 60 years old lol

Ok, so either way you have to bring in pitching: fastpitch or modified. No matter what, you won't have a modified tournament like you used to have because those teams are gone, and the world tournament (fastpitch) is in your backyard in 2010 but you still would rather do a 10man modified tournament? Correct me if I'm wrong but didn't most of the top modified teams get out of the sport because it was virtually dead and went to fastpitch? I guess I'm just confused. Bottomline, if you want modified (which apparently you do) then fine. But your rationale is somewhat crazy.

Two things...

#1 - If they local teams don't play fastpitch I don't see why they would want to try to just find a pitcher and be overmatched by fastpitch pitching for their signature tourney. 3 guys who pitched in our fastpitch league came down for the Blue Water... and all threw well, but none of them were any higher than a class C fp pitcher. If the tourney grew to have more ISC2 teams the local teams would have no chance to hang with the pitching overall.

#2 - The Michigan FP "A-B" state tourney was the same weekend last year. I didn't find a date for this year, but it wouldn't be a very good idea to hold a fastpitch tournament the same weekend as the state championship for all the teams you would be trying to attract in your own state.

I personally would have liked to see it stay the way it was. I think that it still did attract the best pitchers and best teams in modified. Just because there's no Gremlins and Patsy's doesn't mean it still wasn't a good tournament. Swash had a great weekend and Wiley even came and threw for Sun Devil's. And as always there was the annual Dewey, McManus and FAD sightings... I still thought it was a great weekend even after the big 2 left. While it was fun and a great challenge to face their guys, without them it made the field pretty wide open every single game.

Got verbal commitments from Bonnel's, Stallions, Secory's, and Rebels. Information was requested by Granite State Bulldogs and Shawno's. Looking for a few more teams interested let me know.

Now all you need is a commitment from the Shaw Dragons, Creekers and Hillside/McDonalds and the Heavyweight field will be all set for a great weekend of Lob Ball on the 280 foot fences...If your a fan and you want to see some GREAT softball fourth of July weekend, I would highly recommend heading to Pine Grove Park immediately so you get a good parking spot come that weekend because I am sure the fans will be driving in from ALL OVER THE PLACE to see Bonnells.
And although we don't play Fastpitch Sleds, it doesnt mean that we don't enjoy the competition. Even when the tourney was modified the local teams were overmatched most of the time. It's all about the atmosphere and the Aura of the tournament. This is supposed to be a HIGH level showcase tournament for the FANS of Port Huron to come out and watch. Sure you would love for a local team to do well, but since we dont play the game consistently, it will always be difficult. We play to play, not to win. Would it be nice to win? ABSOLUTELY, but realistically unless you have a legit heavyweight pitcher, you have no chance. Verbal commitments from 3 teams that most people can go and watch on Monday and Wednesday nights the entire summer! You want to make it modified, great, go that way, 10 man as you will see will be the end of this tournament.
